The board and management of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) led by the chairman of the board, Dr Hakeem Ahmed Wemah, paid a day’s working visit to the Upper West region to meet some key stakeholders and tour some project sites where the One Million Dollars per Constituency is being used to fund some essential infrastructure projects.

The ‘Bringing back Kayaye home’ project is to provide support to over 500 head porters, popularly known as Kayaye in Accra who are willing to return and settle in the Northern Region.

NDA embarked on a monitoring exercise to ascertain the progress of work on the ongoing IPEP projects in northern Ghana. These projects are being undertaken by the Authority in all the constituencies in the five regions of northern Ghana with funding from the $1 million per Constituency initiative of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana through the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives.

The CEO and management of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) held an exploratory meeting with Trend Group and Calabash Aid in the NDA Liaison Office in Accra. The meeting aimed to explore post-construction strategies and actions that need to be implemented to guarantee the sustainability of the water and sanitation projects implemented by the authority across the five regions of northern Ghana.

I bring you greetings from the CEO, Board and Management of the Northern Development Authority. (NDA). I have been requested by my boss, the CEO to step in to deliver this statement on his behalf. The CEO who would have wished to be here himself but for other equally pressing agendas that has kept him tied up in Accra. I will therefore read his statement and hope you will understand his position regarding the importance of this conference especially under its present theme and how it relates to us in the Northern Development Authority. Mr. Chairman excuse me as I paraphrased the CEO’s favorite proverb which depicts his commitment to the development of Northern Ghana. It is said that a child can play with its mother’s breast but not its father’s testicles. For the CEO, Northern Ghana and its development matters represent the testicles of a father that no true child of the north dare to play or toy with.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) engaged the Northern Development Authority (NDA) to inform the new leadership of the Authority about its latest Human Development Report on Northern Ghana, and to seek support for the launch and dissemination of the report. Ms. Gita Honwana Welch, the UNDP Country Director who led the team for the courtesy call, underscored the importance of the Northern Ghana Human Development Report. She indicated that, just like previous human development reports produced by UNDP for the nation, Western Region and other districts of Ghana, the current report provides baseline information on areas requiring development attention in the North.

His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana, amongst several other innovative initiatives, created the Northern Development Authority Act 963, 2017. It’s mandate among other things, is to provide a framework for the accelerated economic and social development of the three administrative regions of the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions. This is in fulfilment of the NPP’s 2016 Campaign manifesto promise to replace SADA with the Northern Development Authority and create two other development Authorities for the middle and coastal belt to spur rapid economic development across the country.
